With few exceptions, any Maryland resident who wishes to purchase a handgun must possess a valid Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL).  This is a 3 step process:  training, fingerprints, and online application with Maryland State Police.  Course tuition does not include application or fingerprint fees.  This course is for beginners and is much more comprehensive than our Maryland HQL class.

This is a beginner class that exceeds Maryland’s training requirement for purchasing a handgun.  Instruction is mostly classroom with a live fire exercise in our climate-controlled indoor range.  Students will learn basic skills including the following:

• Shooting fundamentals
• Operation and safe handling, loading and unloading
• Cleaning and maintenance
• Differences between semi-automatics and revolvers
• Home firearm safety including locks and safety devices
• Maryland state firearms law
